Shoji is made by Ankur Sehrawat, an individual based in India (“we”). In short: Shoji works on your Mac and doesn’t collect information about you or how you use it. This policy explains the few things that do leave your Mac, and why. For the technical details, see Privacy and permissions in the docs.
The app
What stays on your Mac. Shoji arranges windows using macOS’s Accessibility permission. It reads where windows are and how big they are, and moves them. It never reads what’s inside your windows, takes no screenshots, and doesn’t record your keystrokes. Window titles are read only to label windows in Tab View while it’s open, and are never saved or sent. Your settings and activity counts stay in Shoji’s preferences on your Mac. There’s no account and no analytics or tracking of any kind.
Checking your license. To check your license, Shoji sends Dodo Payments your license key, the ID of this Mac’s activation, and the word “Mac” (never your computer’s name). It does this when you activate the key, about once a day after that, and when you deactivate it. The key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain.
Checking for updates. About once a day (you can turn this off in Settings › General), Shoji downloads a short list of versions from shojimac.com, and downloads an update only when you choose to install it. Like any download, the request includes the app’s name and version; nothing about your Mac, your windows or how you use Shoji is sent.
Sending feedback. Send Feedback writes a report on your Mac and opens a new email in your own email app. Nothing is sent unless you send that email. You can read everything in the report first; apps are shown as letters (App A, App B), not names, and window titles are never included. A crash report is attached only if you tick the box.
Buying Shoji
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. When you buy, you give your name, email address and payment details to Dodo Payments, not to us; we never see your card details. Dodo Payments shares with us what we need to support you: your name, email address, country, what you bought and your license key. Dodo Payments’ own privacy policy applies to the information it collects.
The website
shojimac.com has no advertising and sets no cookies. It’s hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes your IP address and the pages you request to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. The site remembers your light or dark theme choice in your browser, and checks your time zone in your browser to show prices in rupees or dollars; neither is sent anywhere.
To see how many people visit and which pages they read, the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts page views, the page that sent you here, your country and the kind of device and browser. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t follow you across other sites, and doesn’t collect personal information. Cloudflare’s privacy policy applies to it.
Emails to us
If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use it only to answer you. We keep these emails for as long as needed to help you, and no longer than 2 years.
What we keep, and your choices
- We keep purchase records (name, email, country, license key, order) for as long as your license is active and as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, by writing to us. Deleting your purchase record also turns off your license key.
- We don’t sell or share your information with anyone except as described here.
Children
Shoji isn’t aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. Changes that affect what Shoji sends will also be described in the release notes of that version.
